Miaoxin Huang

Miaoxin is a singer-songwriter who has a keen interest in jazz. Her Chinese-Australian background has led her to explore both Western and East-Asian musical elements. From classical to alternative, her compositions have explored a variety of styles. As to become a better musician, she is constantly striving to achieve her best to reach her musical goals.

My project ‘What Does It Mean to Me?’ had provided me a chance to think through the complexity of myself and the world around. Each song consists of an exploration of different genres that aim to create a challenge for me to step out of the comfort zone.

‘What Does It Mean to Me’ is a short opening song to introduce the concept of the EP along the internal thoughts. The style of the song delivers a yearning of simplicity from a complex aspect within the mindset as a singer-songwriter.

‘神经衰弱 ‘ (Neurasthenia) is a R&B infused song composed in Chinese language. In terms of my understanding, 神经衰弱 refers to the sensible feeling in between rational and emotional actions. In the process of creation, this song has effectively helped me to better look at my weaknesses.

‘Piece of Restlessness’ is an alternative song based on the feeling of dream pop and blues. The philosophical lyrics and the ambient sounding were what made the song to a such intense.

Special thanks to all my music teachers and collaborators throughout the years of study.
