About the Artist

Elliot Joel is a pop musician raised in the suburbs of Fernhill and Fairy Meadow. His songs, formed from jingles and dance beats, are influenced by the noise of his environment. Far from being classically trained, his piano style is naive and energetic.

Mid Summer
My EP project, ‘Mid Summer’, is a personal summary of my own experience at university and in Wollongong. The goal was to synthesise a new language based on my environment and use that within pop-music contexts. I focused heavily on improvisation and spontaneous composition. Overdubs were recorded intentionally out of sync to create all sorts of self-inflicted musical blindnesses. The dogmas of 4/4 and C major hold everything together. Several of the tracks are benefitted by Victor Justin Valdes’s radical guitar approach, as well as Alex Sabotkovski’s pub-rock know-how, Isabella Sadler’s vocals and Sammy Wong’s trombone. The majority of compositions and performances are by me, achieved in Ableton Live.
The result is a pop music where you can hear the internal struggle of the musicians, born to noodle, forced to rehearse.
