Pandemonium
My major project titled ‘Pandemonium’, is a science fiction film score installation. The composition involves a two minute vocal track introduction and an 8 minute, three movement orchestral piece. The vocal track was recorded and tracked with vocalists Atarah Johnson and Olivia Jones, the score notated with the utilisation of the Finale program. This project is presented with the assistance of a Powerpoint presentation, with visual images generated through Adobe Firefly artificial intelligence (AI) as well as mood lighting and speaker playback. The aim of the installation is to exhibit a dystopian, fantasy-inspired narrative; telling a tale of deceit, betrayal, escapade and confrontation.
This presentation sets the scene for the audience, with the images displayed in chronological order of the narrative. The choral track was recorded prior to the composition of the score, acting as an inspiration to the storyline. The first movement ‘Disclosure’ follows the protagonist as it is revealed that the antagonist has been deceitful, with a tense melodic contour and adamant tempo. ‘Contingency’ , the second movement, calls for a fast time signature and with expressive, dynamic phrases to portray a chase scene between the two characters, as they escape one another through an overgrown dystopian forest. This leads to a final battle, ‘An Encounter’, in which the third movement involves dramatic melodies, ranging in expressive techniques to build upon texture, undertoning the hand to hand combat in the finale.
Special acknowledgements and recognition to TAEM for installation equipment setup, organisation, preparation and communication as well as taking time and care for this project.
