About the Artist
Sammy Wong is a Sydney-based multi-instrumentalist, conductor, composer and educator. Having performed with numerous outfits all over the Greater Sydney Metro area and the South Coast, he currently holds the choirmaster position at St George’s Hurstville Anglican. He has also won many awards at both a Metropolitan and State level, being named the Young Bandperson of the Year in 2021 with both the Band Association of New South Wales (BANSW) and Sydney Metropolitan Band Branch (SMBB). He is also a three time Junior State Champion on Bass Trombone (2021, 2020 & 2019) and is also a two time Open Bass Trombone State champion in 2024 & 2021.

The Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway is a three-movement contemporary classical work based on the infamous World War II naval battle. This work is the culmination of my 3 years of study at University of Wollongong (UOW) and brings together my musical knowledge and experience to date, along with a whole bunch of collaborators within the UOW music cohort and beyond.
Before I go any further, I would like to thank my good friend Hayden Koek who has been instrumental in the musical development of the project, and has spent countless hours with me on this great journey. Thank you!!
I would also like to thank my other good friends, Victor Justin Valdes and Elliot Joel who have both been there from the start till the end. Having spent countless hours on this project, helping in the recording studios, rehearsals, mixing, logistics, support, you name it these two have been there. Thank you!! This project would not be where it is without you two!!
Also, Oliver Wootton (guest musician from St George Brass Band) featured on snare drum in the 1st Movement. Thank you for being a part of my project!
